Being the last few days of school, it was a stressful week. Taking down bulletin boards, packing up kid's art, piling last min pages into their scrapbooks, planning and practising for Kindergarten Graduation etc. were just a few things that needed to be done. Friday was a little break from the chaos and I took off with Andrea to Oosoyos, B.C. to get away and go camping for the weekend. We had a beautiful site right on the water. We parked our tent right on the water's edge so that we could keep the door open and look out onto the moon's reflection on the water. I call it luxury camping since we had most everything we needed at our fingertips and if we did need something, Fields was only a few km down the road. We quickly realized we had forgotten a few necessary items such as cups, butter, pillows, and towels but we improvised and made due with what we did have. We didn't do too much this camping trip besides sit, sleep, rest, read, swim, lay in the hamock and lay on floaties in the water. It was fantastic! Just what I needed. Kayaking Adventures

The sun was shining after weeks and weeks and weeks of RAIN! Andrea, Nicole and I decided it was about time to take the kayaks for a little spin. We decided we would try a lake we had never gone to before. We took out a mapbook and saw Chehalus Lake. It looked simple enough to get to... a few windy bumpy service roads and we'd be there no problem. We studied the map a little, tied the kayaks in the truck and set out. Things were great until we almost lost one of the paddles off the back of the truck. I had to hold them through the truck window the rest of the way. When we turned on to the service road, we were in for a treat. The road was beautiful. It winded uphill through the mossy trees and over big potholes that made us sit backwards to keep an eye on the kayaks in the back. After about half an hour of scenic beauty, with the road getting narrower and narrower, we started wondering if we were on the right track. We come across a truck and the driver informs us that this road doesn't lead anywhere but dead ends. We tell him we are looking for a lake and he says that all the roads to that lake have been washed away with landslides. Hmm.... new plan... we decide to turn around and find the Maria Slough.

The Maria Slough was beautiful with Mt. Cheam in the backdrop as we paddled our way around. Andrea and Nicole graciously paddled straight as I was left making circles every 5 strokes of the paddle. At one point, we had to tie my kayak to Andreas because we didn't think we'd make it anywhere at the rate I was going. I don't know if there is a different way to paddle or maneuvre your kayak if it is a white water kayak but I was definitely having problems. I think by the end, I had it down to an art though. lol.
